bird hunting

I have spent the last two mornings out tromping around in various fields, trying to kick up a bird. I missed opening day of the season on Saturday and have yet to see a bird. Lots of turkey but not the ones I’m after. This morning I see it’s raining so I have to decide, do I go or not? Sometimes the rain makes them easier to find. Hmm…

Fall

With leaves and temps dropping it's a sure sign that fall is here with winter following shortly behind. I’m actually looking forward to it this year since I have decided to make an attempt at getting back into upland hunting. Back quite a few years ago I quit doing it because the bird numbers seemed to be down so much. It really isn’t any fun to go out and walk all day and never even see any. Yeah, it’s good exercise and all but still, that’s not why I’m out there.

I’ve also decided that I need a new shotgun. Lisa has a gun picked out (I think) for her so I figured I’d just get them both at the same time if I can manage to swing it. I’ve always wanted an O/U shotgun for bird hunting and occasional trap/skeet shooting but never could come to justify the money they get for those. One like I want is $1000 on the bottom end and it never stops going up. That’s just too much money for me to spend on one when I don’t have more time than I do. But… I just became aware of one that is about 1/3 the cost and they feel pretty decent. I think I’m going to try one of those. The cheaper one should be fine for me and after having previewed one the fit, feel and finish is more than you would think you’d get for that kind of money. Now if I can just come up with the time to use it.
