Here is another aspect I had never even thought of.

This election crap is really starting to get to me. Read this morning that the GOP will go to court to prevent a manual recount of the votes in Florida yet they are "considering" asking for recounts in states where they narrowly lost to Gore. Iowa included. This is why I hate politics. Normally level headed people turn into complete idiots. It's like watching little kids fight. Each side has their reasons and no matter how screwed up that reasoning may seem, they will argue it until someone steps in and breaks it up. My question is - who is going to step in and break this up?? Will it ever stop? Seems to me like it could go on in the legal system for years, all the while making our country look really stupid. Obviously there were problems with this election. I'm sure there were problems in every election. My suggestion, as if anyone cares, would be to let the entire country re-vote but only for the President. Just a simple, easy to understand, x marks the spot kinda ballot with only the Presidential candidates. Only the people who voted last Tuesday are allowed to re-vote. No additional campaigning. Just a simple vote. Unfortunately, nothing in America is simple. We are all about fairness and justice and because of that, even the simple issues are way too complicated. I guess that's the price we pay to live in a land of equal rights for all.

OVERSIZED LOAD

Someone in another county bought this bridge off our county for use on a farm. It was kinda cool to watch. It's not every day a bridge comes thru the middle of town on a semi. Todd had to stay a mile ahead of it to get people out of it's way. Can you imagine driving down a two lane highway and meeting a semi hauling a two lane bridge??

This morning I was chatting with Kaycee until her nurses interrupted. I went outside to watch the bridge go by (more on that later) and when I came back in, she was gone. Of course I got a little worried but I should've known better. She was just out partying. heh.

Scott and I went to parent-teacher conferences tonight. I have to tell ya... I am so glad that we can look past our differences and co-parent as well as we do. I'm not saying we do everything right because we sure don't. It's just out of the ordinary for divorced parents to attend things like that together and that's really too bad. The kids get hurt in the end and that is not fair. Our divorce was published in the paper today so it was kinda funny watching the faces of other parents when we come strolling down the hall together laughing. We are not supposed to be laughing together. We are supposed to be bitter enemies. Trust me.. we could be easy enough. We just choose not to.

Anyway, that stupid parenting class we had to take said that children's school work slipped as a result of the parent's separation and divorce. Well again... maybe in a typical case but not in this instance. Christopher is in 2nd grade and according to the state tests the teacher showed us, he would be comfortable learning with the 6th grade. He has never been a behavior problem at school. The teacher said he is very focused and eager to learn. I think that is largely because he has no worries outside of school. His life is not a chaotic mess like so many children of divorce. He's not bogged down in the adult problems and can just be a kid and learn. I guess the point of this post is two-fold; of course I want to brag on my boy but I also want to send a message that in a situation like divorce, you have to let go of the past and concentrate on the children. It's not easy but parenting isn't supposed to be if you're doing it right.

Pets.com is closing. Crap. Now I'll have to find another place to get my pet supplies.

I love almost all animals therefore our home is also home to a variety of pets. This past summer I bought two gerbils and a hamster. The gerbils were babies when I got them and had been hand raised. They are really cool. The hamster is another story. The guy in the pet store was always getting bit by the birds, guinea pigs, ferrets... everything bit him. His wife could handle any pet in the store but not Butch. The day I went in to buy the hamster, his wife was gone so I asked him to show me the hamsters. He had one that had never bit him so he got that one out and it crawled around in his hands and seemed as sweet as can be. Of course I took that one because I figured if it didn't bite Butch, it must be good. I was wrong. This hamster is the anti-Christ. Satan personified. Evil as the day is long. I have named him The Biting Bastard because he lit into me one day and in a matter of seconds managed to bite my finger seven times - one of which left a scar. Needless to say, I hate this thing. He chews up his toys, chews up his feed and water dispensers, chews everything. Like I said, I love animals so when he started chewing his way out of his plastic cage, I got him a new wire one. The new one came via UPS today so I put him in it over my lunch hour and left. Todd gets home an hour before I do and he calls my office and tells me the hamster was out of the cage when he got home. The cats are sitting by the toy boxes so he figures that's where the critter is. I guess when he squatted down and hollered, the thing came running right to him like it was glad to see a friendly face. I almost hate to think what the cats put him through during his brief outing. I figured after having been molested by cats and rescued by a human, maybe the thing had adjusted it's attitude. The first thing I did when I got home was poke my finger thru the slot in the cage and promptly got bit again. Thankfully, I have long fingernails so it didn't actually get skin. It's also fortunate that we have a very tall file cabinet to sit him on so the kids can't reach him. If you ever find yourself debating between buying a hamster or a gerbil, go with the gerbil. They do not bite and they don't stink near as bad as a hamster.

If you haven't decided who is the best candidate or if you just aren't sure where they stand on the major issues, please go here and make your decision an educated one.

The phone has rang off the wall today with reminders to go vote. I even had a taped message from our Governor on my answering machine. The last gal who called blabbered off about a thousand words in less than a minute. All I caught was "closest election in over 40 years" and "need all Democrats to get out and vote". Even though I have been old enough to vote for many elections, this will be my first presidential one. I honestly never cared enough about the political process before. I am registered and will most certainly be casting my vote this time around. Part of the reason why I didn't previously is because of all the arguing and nonsense that occurs before an election. Friends and family turn on each other viciously over who is the best candidate. I never cared to get into that. People would ask me if I was voting and when I answered no, they'd remind me that I had no right to bitch over the outcome then. I never did complain about the outcome because it didn't seem like there was anything to worry about. This election worries me though so I will be voting. Depending on the outcome, I may entertain job offers from overseas. Australia would be nice....
