The Rest of the Story

Christopher cut his finger the other night and I haven't had time to tell the funny parts of the story. Less than an hour before the cut he had been bragging to me about how much weight he's gained and how he's already tougher than me. His goal is to be as tough as his dad by his 8th birthday. He spent at least thirty minutes telling me how much he could lift, how fast he could run, etc. Fast forward to the emergency room. They have him hop on the scales so they can weigh him. Any seasoned veteran knows they weigh you so they can calculate the proper dosage for the syringe. He doesn't know this so he jumps up on the scale and is beaming when the nurse announces 55 pounds. She turns him to step him off the scale and he spots the needle. He starts backing up and shaking his head from side to side as the doctor is drawing the fluid up into the syringe. Doc looks at him and says "How tough are you buddy?" Christopher, who is trying very hard not to bust out bawling, says "I'm not. Not really." Maybe it was just from the stress of the situation but I thought that was funny. Then the doctor told him he wasn't going to lie, the shot was going to go right in the finger and it was going to hurt like hell. He told him he could cry as hard and as loud as he wanted but he had to stop when the pain stopped and asked him if they had a deal. Christopher said "How about I just knock your teeth down your throat?" I told Kaycee if I didn't know better I'd swear he'd been hanging out with her and taking lessons on how to keep the doctors on their toes!

Anyway, he did a super job and didn't cry at all.... and Doc Richard still has all of his teeth : )

Today has been one of those days that makes me just want to choke the ever lovin' shit out of someone. I had a full load scheduled for work and was to start the day by getting DSL installed at the house. The phone company was to be here at 8:30am for that. They called at 8:45 to say that the county crews had cut a line out in the country so that bumped me way down and possibly completely off the list for the day. Well hell. I've been having problems with the dialup connection for days now - the main reason for going to DSL. As soon as I learned the DSL probably wasn't coming, my ISP refused to cough up my email. I called their tech support and the guy said I hadn't logged on yet today. Excuse me??? I have been logged on since yesterday, thank you. "Nope", he said, "You aren't logged on to the internet at all." Okay, I'm looking at the cute little box that says I'm connected at 48,000... I'm chatting on AIM with a friend, I've read all of my favorite blogs... now how could I be doing that if I weren't logged in. To make a long story short, I was right - he was wrong and I finally got my email.

This afternoon the phone guy called again and said he had another guy who could hook up my DSL if I still wanted it today. They come over, hook it up and it won't work. I remembered that Todd had told me his computer didn't like DSL on the ethernet card so I had to do some hardware changes, reconfigure our network, etc. Still won't work. A call to tech support got that straightened out. I checked a couple of sites and realized it wasn't really going that fast so I installed a speed tester and discovered it was even slower than the dialup. Another call to tech support. They had me run a traceroute from my machine to their server and found out there was a router down along the line. A router that just so happens to belong to my ISP... the same people who can't provide a reliable dialup to save their life. Unbelieveable! I was so hoping to be rid of them altogether. Should've known they'd be in the line somewhere. At any rate, they tell us all should be back to normal tomorrow. I sure hope so because I lost a lot of work time today that will need to be made up over the weekend.

Christopher made it to age 7 without needing stitches. Tonight he managed to cut his finger to the bone on a dull knife - the same knife that I've contemplated pitching in the trash because it no longer peels apples or cuts even butter. Thank God Todd was home because I didn't handle it near as well as I could have. I'll recap the ordeal tomorrow because it was actually kind of humorous after we got to the hospital. Tonight I have to get to bed... have the feeling he'll be getting up about the time that shot wears off.

Damn! I love Blogger, I really do, but it always eats the posts that I put the most effort into. I had typed a bunch about starting the new year with Todd, how we started last year trying to help each other save our respective marriages and began this year together, and how we'd taken a gamble with our friendship and it paid off. Now it's gone so I'll just point you here where you can read Todd's take on the whole deal. I feel the same way. Very happy with the choices I made.
