Todd's neice reminded me today that I'm not doing a very good job of keeping my site updated. (waves at Mitzi!!) All I've been doing is working and no one really cares about me trying to learn L.A.M.P, do they? No?? I didn't think so.
Just for fun - and because I get complaints (waves at Lori!) about how my technobabble confuses most of my readers - I'm gonna explain L.A.M.P. in layman's terms. Ready?
L = linux. An operating system. Windows is an operating system, too. The best way that I can think of to describe linux is that you can see and control what happens. For example, when you tell windows to shut down, there's a delay and then a message about it being safe to shut down. When you shut down linux, you can actually view the processes that are being "killed" or sent the "term signal". There's a bazillion other differences but you wouldn't be interested.
A = apache. A web server. Whenever you browse to an internet site, a web server delivers the requested page to you. I normally work with IIS web servers.
M = mysql. A database server. When you place an order online, your information is submitted to a database and the information exchange is handled by the database server. I normally stay away from the databases.
P = php. An embedded scripting language. As a general rule, any kind of scripting language makes my head hurt.
Just trying to put that in the simplest terms made me queasy. I think I need a vacation. I definitely need for Christmas to be over. I still have a ton of shopping to do and not enough time to do it in or enough money to do it with. At least there is another possibility of snow this weekend. Maybe we'll actually get some this time.
This is insane!! We are nine days away from Christmas and Todd is outside BBQing! I just checked the weather online and it says "Corrected - tweaked temps upwards slightly". What is this? Florida???
