Just reading Candi's site and found this story about a cop being shot by his three year old son. How sad. How disgustingly sad. I have been watching Todd take off duty gear for about a year and a half and the very first thing he does is unholster his weapon, removes the magazine, ejects the chambered round and puts it in it's safe place. The very first thing. No going to the bathroom first. No kissy for the little wife. No hugs for the children. Nothing is done before the weapon is unloaded and put away. Can you imagine the lifetime of pain that man would have had to endure if it would've been the three year old son that was shot?? Deb, I bet Mark is in the habit of unloading first thing in the door too, isn't he?

Todd found Christopher a really cool little football for Christmas and Christopher just loved the thing. Apparently, Dozer loved it too because he ate it. Not all of it but better than 1/3 of it. Enough to make it useless and make Christopher bawl and scream.

At the height of his anger he said "Mom, call Todd and tell him I'll give him all my money in my piggy bank to buy a new one and tell him to shoot that stupid dog!!!" About an hour later he's still upset and tells me that he has $12.36 to get a new ball with and he still wants Todd to shoot the dog because that was his favorite present and supposedly Dozer knew that.

Now he tells me that he's managed to round up $12.89 and I can cancel the request to have the dog executed. He just wants Todd to tell Dozer to leave other people's stuff alone and not to eat anything but doggy treats and dog food. I'm sure the dog will understand that about as well as he understood that he ate C's favorite present.

I had a tickle in the back of my throat for about four days that morphed into a cold. Thank God for Nyquil. I'm going to take some and crawl into bed.

I'm sitting here ringing in the new year with a couple of friends from the east coast. I pulled all of my ethernet cable out from behind the desk so I could string it thru from the office to the living room. Now I can sit on the couch, watch the ball drop in NYC while chatting with Faith and John.

The last half of 2001 has sucked to put it mildly. I've never been so glad to put a year behind me. In the new year it's up to me to take charge of some things. I need to be proactive to prevent more suckiness. I need to take stock of the good things... Todd, the kids, my family and friends. I need to remember that even in the worst of times, if I still have them, I have everything I really need.

May the new year bring new beginnings and much happiness to us all.
